VISION

Deccan Gymkhana sought to renovate its 8,000 Sq.Ft. Gymnasium floor and elevate the user experience to contemporary design and well-being standards. The project was won through a competition floated by the institution.

The key design insight was to organize the equipment according to the various muscle-groups. This organization permitted better utility and movement of people. Additionally, the competition entry focused on the introduction of live plants and biophilia as an important focus of the interior design. High-quality evaporative cooling solution was also proposed as a low-energy HVAC solution.

DESIGN

The design approach was twofold. First, the layout was designed to create distinct muscle group zones, allowing for better organization of equipment and a streamlined circulation on the gym floor. The second goal was to modernize the outdated gym space, transforming it into an inspiring, future-ready environment that encourages greater participation and usage by members.

To enhance the volume of the space, the existing grid false ceiling was removed, and a bright-coloured ceiling was introduced, becoming a striking focal point, complemented by a thoughtful lighting strategy. Biophilic design elements play a significant role in invigorating the space and improving air quality. Cost optimization was a key aspect of the project, achieved through a minimalist approach to finishes, ensuring both reduced maintenance time and effort in the high-traffic gymkhana space.
