VISION
Set along the Mahanadi River, the university is conceived as a world-class learning environment for the hearing impaired. It integrates vocational training, humanities and linguistics, while creating a campus that expresses communication, dignity and belonging through space and light.
PROCESS
The design prioritizes visibility and connection. A modular learning unit forms the basis of classrooms, workshops and residences, arranged to maintain clear sightlines and encourage interaction through gesture. Drawing from local vernacular, courtyards, shaded verandahs and inverted roofs support natural ventilation and social proximity.
Clay-fired and fly-ash bricks sourced from local craftsmen reduce embodied energy and reinforce community participation. Passive cooling and shaded circulation ensure comfort in Odisha’s climate.
OUTCOMES
The university becomes an architectural model of inclusion where space itself teaches and supports communication. By aligning climate responsiveness with social intention, the campus elevates a small riverside village into a place of global aspiration. It stands as a statement of equality, proving that architecture can empower and inspire.
