VISION
Located in rural Karnataka, the Community Centre is conceived as the social and administrative heart of a 215-acre settlement focused on sustainable living. The architecture expresses harmony and coexistence, grounding progress in place and tradition.
PROCESS
Drawing from regional vernacular, the design uses stone, lime and timber for strength and warmth. A sequence of courtyards, verandahs and shaded corridors blurs inside and outside, while thick stone walls regulate temperature and lime plaster adds texture.
The local Jaguḷi, a veranda-like social platform, is reinterpreted as a unifying spatial element. Local craft and materials guide the construction, so the buildings emerge naturally from the landscape, with orientation and massing tuned to climate and context.
OUTCOMES
The Community Centre will serve as both institution and home, supporting gathering, learning and care with a sense of permanence without monumentality. Passive cooling, daylighting and local sourcing reduce energy use while reinforcing cultural continuity. It stands as a model for regenerative rural development.
