VISION
Pushpaka Mansion is a 170-year-old residence restored to its original integrity while integrating contemporary systems for longevity and performance. The design balances preservation and adaptation, reinstating cultural dignity and giving the building new relevance as a home and cultural venue.
PROCESS
The restoration began with a detailed study of the mansion’s layered history to recover its original spatial logic. Unsympathetic additions were removed to reveal deep verandahs, rhythmic structure and cross-ventilated halls. Timber was stripped to expose its natural grain; handmade tiles were reproduced through local craft and lime plaster will be reapplied throughout.
The process is architectural archaeology, revealing memory through material truth.
OUTCOMES
When complete, Pushpaka will stand as a model of adaptive reuse rooted in authenticity, where design continues history and craft becomes stewardship.
