VISION
The project reimagines a school for children with special needs as a nurturing environment that supports dignity, comfort and sensory balance. Set in the southern suburbs of Hosapete, the design uses light, air and texture to build a close relationship with nature.
PROCESS
Guided by accessibility with dignity, climate responsiveness and spaces of care, the plan ensures barrier-free movement through wide ramps, open corridors and clear wayfinding. Terracotta jaalis filter light and enhance ventilation, while classrooms open to shaded verandahs that allow learning and rest to flow outdoors.
Dual-layered façades regulate heat and airflow, reducing reliance on mechanical cooling. Every proportion and transition is considered to create an environment that is protective yet open.
OUTCOMES
Saadhya Special School shows how inclusive design can be functional and poetic. It offers a calm, supportive setting that encourages independence and belonging while remaining environmentally responsive. Its porous façades and terracotta rhythm express empathy through space, creating a place for learning, healing and joy.
