VISION

The design proposal envisions Badami as India’s first tourist destination of global importance that focuses on ‘Living Heritage’. The tourism strategy for Badami shall thus focus on elevating access to all sites through urban level interventions that include the creation of all-weather public spaces and educational centres such as museums and interpretation centres. In parallel the strategy also gives importance to the resident local communities and includes their participation in the creation of a Living Heritage.

DESIGN

In Badami, the growth of the local community’s fortunes shall be closely intertwined with the preservation and experience of historic heritage as the city plans to step wholly into the new century.

We want visitors in Badami to expand their stay in the city for a longer duration. When tourists spend more time in the city, they help in the growth of the local commerce. At present, tourists primarily visit the Badami caves and then travel outside the city to Pattadakal and Aihole mostly within the same day.

In this way, Badami Taluk can benefit greatly from the influx of national and international tourism. To achieve this goal, it is imperative that the city of Badami can offer tourists and visitors a variety of activities to sustain their interest from morning, to during the day and even later into the evening.
